Tums School

Tums School is situated on Subbulapuram Road in Karivalam Vanda Nallur. It’s a bit of a trek to get out here, but we like the location. The school has been around for a while, and the building shows its age in places, with some cracks in the plaster and faded paint. We don’t mind it much. The focus is on the kids who come here every morning. Most of them are local, and we see their families at the market or in town. The classrooms are filled with old wooden desks that have names carved into them from students who left years ago. We have a small playground, though it’s mostly just a patch of grass and dirt where the kids play football or cricket during their breaks. The teachers are a dedicated bunch, even if we’re sometimes short-staffed. We do our best to follow the syllabus, but we also try to teach the kids a bit of common sense. We aren't a big fancy place with shiny floors. Sometimes the bells don't ring on time because someone forgot, or we run out of chalk in the middle of a lesson. We just make do with what we have. It’s a very normal, everyday kind of school. We aren't trying to impress anyone; we’re just here to provide an education for the children in this part of Karivalam Vanda Nallur. We’ve got plenty of work to do before the day ends.
