Meenachi Rice Mill

If you walk down Vanuvar Pillaiar Kovil Street in Parasurama Purum, you can’t miss the sound of our machines. Meenachi Rice Mill has been right here at number 12 for years. It’s a loud place, and there is always a bit of white dust from the rice husks in the air. We spend our days processing paddy for the local farmers and families around Kadayanallur. It’s hard work and your clothes get dirty pretty fast, but we don't mind much. People bring their sacks of grain on carts or motorcycles, and we help them get it milled so they can take it home to eat or sell. We have a couple of old machines that we have to fix ourselves sometimes. It’s not a high-tech operation, just a lot of belts and motors running from morning to night. We try to keep things moving so nobody has to wait too long. The street is narrow, so it gets a bit tight when people are dropping off their loads. My father started this mill, and I’ve been working here since I was a kid. We know most of the farmers who come by, and we usually share some news while the machines are humming. We don't have a website or anything like that. People just know where we are and what we do. It’s a steady rhythm of life here in Kadayanallur, and we are just happy to be a part of it.
