Farook Cane Industries

Farook Cane Industries is right out here by the Piranoor Border in Shencottah. Being in the Tirunelveli district, we are used to the landscape and the way things move a bit differently than in the big cities. We work with cane every day. It’s physical work and your hands get used to it after a while. The location at the border means we see a lot of transit moving back and forth. It’s a dusty spot sometimes, but it is where we do most of our work. We have a small group of people here who have been working with these materials for years. We don't have a fancy showroom or a big marketing team. Most people find us because they know where we are or they’ve heard about us from someone else in the district. The sun gets pretty hot in the afternoons, so we usually try to get the heavy lifting done earlier in the day. There is a certain smell to the cane and the workshop that you just get used to. We don't really think about it much anymore. It's just about the day-to-day tasks of processing the materials and making sure the orders are ready for whoever is coming to pick them up. It is honest work and it keeps us busy. We like being out here in Shencottah; it’s a good place for a business like ours. We just keep our heads down and keep working hard.
