Ayyangar Dhall Mill

We are located right on Big Street at number 112 in Tirunelveli Town. It’s a busy part of town with lots of people walking by all the time. The mill has been part of this street for a long time. You can usually smell the grains when you get close to the door. We spend most of our time at the machines, making sure everything is ground up properly. It’s a lot of manual labor, lifting heavy sacks and moving things around the floor. The space is a bit cramped because we have a lot of equipment packed into the building, but we make it work. Sometimes the neighbors come by just to chat for a minute while we work. We don't have a website or any of that modern stuff. We just focus on the dhall. The floor is usually covered in a fine dust by the end of the shift, so we spend a lot of time cleaning up too. It’s a simple setup we’ve got here. We’ve seen the town change a lot over the years, but Big Street stays pretty much the same. We just keep doing what we know how to do. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s what keeps us going. We hope to stay right here at 112 for many more years to come. There is always more work to be done when the sun comes up tomorrow and the new shipments arrive.
