Anu Juice Shop

You can find Anu Juice Shop at 51, North Car Street, which is right near the Vinayaga Temple. This is a very busy part of town, especially on festival days or during the morning prayers. We get a lot of people coming straight from the temple who are thirsty and tired. The shop is quite small, so most of our customers just stand out on the pavement while they wait for their juice. We have piles of oranges, pineapples, and watermelons stacked up on the counters. My day is mostly spent cutting fruit and running the juicer. The noise of the machine is constant, and my hands are almost always sticky from the fruit sugar. We go through a lot of sugar and ice every single day. The trash cans fill up fast with fruit peels, and we have to empty them constantly to keep the flies away. It’s a tough job being on your feet all day in a small space, but we are used to it by now. We don't have a menu with fancy names; we just make whatever fruit we have fresh on the counter. Sometimes the temple bells are so loud we can barely hear what the customers are asking for. We just keep our heads down and keep the juice flowing. It’s a simple, honest way to serve the people who live and pray in this neighborhood.
