Velkanni Store

Velkanni Store is at 634/2 Rackins Road, which is very close to the Tiruchirappalli Railway Junction. Because we are near the station, we get a lot of travelers. They usually want water, snacks, or something to read on the train. I also have plenty of locals who stop by for their daily groceries. The street is always loud with the sound of horns and people shouting. You get used to it after a while. I’ve been running this shop for about twelve years. It’s a narrow space, so I have to stack things all the way to the ceiling. I use a long stick with a hook to reach the items on the top shelf. It’s a bit of a trick to not knock anything else down. My wife stays in the shop during the afternoon so I can go home for a nap. The humidity here can be really tough in the summer. We have a small fridge for cold drinks, which is the most popular thing we sell. The floor is tiled, but some of them are cracked from dropping heavy crates. I don’t worry about it too much. We aren't trying to be a fancy mall. We are just a convenient stop for people on the move. I like hearing stories from the passengers about where they are going. It makes the day go by faster. The trains clattering nearby remind me of the time every single hour.
