The Rama Mill Stores Company

Our place is over at No 1/269 A in Raja Nagar. If you’re heading down Vayalur Road, you’ll find us near Nachikurichi. It’s not a huge store, but we pack a lot into it. Mostly, we deal with mill supplies and the kind of hardware that people around here need for their daily work. My father used to say that a store is only as good as what’s actually on the shelves, so we try not to let things run out. It gets pretty dusty sometimes because of all the inventory, and the floor isn't exactly level, but it works for us. People stop by on their way to work or on their way home. We know most of the regulars by name now. It’s nice when someone comes in with a broken part and we can actually find the replacement in one of the old bins. We don't have a big computer system or anything like that to track everything; it’s mostly just notes in a ledger and knowing where we put things last. The neighborhood is quiet enough, though the road gets some traffic. Sometimes we sit outside on the plastic chairs when there’s a lull in the afternoon. It’s a simple way to make a living. We aren’t trying to be the biggest shop in the area, just the one that’s actually open when someone needs a specific bolt or a piece of belt.
