Swaralaya

Down at 32 South Draupadi Amman Koil Street, you’ll find Swaralaya. We’re tucked away in Kottur, over here in Tiruchirappalli. It’s a bit of a quiet street most of the time, which is nice because we deal with music and sounds. Being near the temple means we hear the bells and the morning prayers sometimes, which adds a nice feel to the place. We’ve been here for quite some time now. People in the neighborhood know us mostly by word of mouth. It’s not a big commercial operation with signs everywhere. We keep things pretty low-key. The building is older, but it has a lot of character and it stays relatively cool even when the Trichy sun is beating down outside. We spend our days teaching or practicing, and sometimes just chatting with parents who bring their kids by. It’s a very local atmosphere. We don't have a receptionist or a big waiting area. Usually, you’ll just find someone sitting in the main room with an instrument. We like it this way because it feels more like a home than a business. The floor is a bit uneven in spots and the walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but it doesn't really matter much to us. We just care about the music and the people who come here to learn. It’s been our little spot for years and we’re happy with how things are going on this street.
