Suman Stores

We are located on Patel Road in Perambur, which is one of those parts of Chennai that always feels a bit crowded and old. Suman Stores is at number 46, and it is where I spend most of my day, from early morning until about nine at night. We stock the usual things like dal, rice, cooking oil, and those small plastic toys that kids always want. The floor is made of old stone and it stays relatively cool even when the humidity in Chennai gets really bad. My father used to handle things here before me, and not much has changed in terms of how we do things. We use a manual scale for some of the loose items, though we have a digital one now for the heavier bags. The Perambur Barracks area has a lot of history, and you can see it in the old buildings around us. Sometimes the rain floods the street a little bit, and we have to put a wooden plank at the door to keep the water out. Customers usually come in with their own cloth bags, which is good. I spend a lot of time checking the expiry dates on the milk packets and making sure the fridge is running properly. It is just a regular neighborhood store where people come for their daily needs without any fuss. I like the routine of it, even if the lifting can be a bit much for my back.
