Sri Krishan Stores

Sri Krishan Stores has been at 8, Cys Road for quite a while now. This part of Perambur, near the Perambur Barracks in Chennai, is always full of life and a bit of heat. We spend our mornings unhooking the metal shutters and letting the air in, though it stays pretty warm inside once the sun hits the street. The store is filled with rows of items that we spend hours rearranging. I find myself constantly dusting the jars and making sure the bags of lentils are stacked properly so they don't fall over. Chennai 600012 is a busy place to have a shop, especially with the barracks nearby. We don't use any high-tech systems here; most of our work is done with a pen and a paper ledger. It feels more natural that way, even if it takes longer. The floor is made of old stone and it’s seen a lot of foot traffic over the years. We aren't trying to be the biggest store in the city or anything like that. We just focus on keeping the shelves full and the space ready for whoever walks through the door. Sometimes the inventory arrives late and we have to stay late to get it all sorted. It’s just the way things are at our spot on Cys Road. We keep it simple and just do the work that needs doing each day.
