Jawahar Rice Mill

Jawahar Rice Mill is at No 1, Paramankurchi Road, in the town of Udangudi. If you are looking for us, just follow the sound of the hulling machines. We have been here for a long time, and the mill is a well-known spot on Paramankurchi Road. The building is old and made of heavy stone and metal. Inside, it’s always busy and quite dusty from the rice processing. We spend our days hauling sacks of paddy and monitoring the machines. It’s not an easy job, especially when it’s hot outside, which is most of the time here. We have a small crew of workers who have been with us for years. We don’t have any fancy management styles or corporate rules. We just know what needs to be done and we do it. The local farmers bring their crop to us, and we spend our time getting it ready for the market. It’s a very traditional way of working. There is a small office near the entrance where we keep the records in big notebooks. We don't use much technology besides the milling equipment. Udangudi is a small place, so we know most of our customers by name. We just focus on keeping the machines in good repair and making sure the work gets finished. It’s a simple, honest way to make a living for all of us.
