Highway Supermarket

Highway Supermarket is right at 53/626 in Karakka Mandapam. We’re located on the Melamcode Temple Road in Nemom, which means we get a mix of local families and people just passing through. The name says highway, and it’s true that we get a lot of travelers stopping for a quick bottle of water or some snacks. It’s a big room filled with shelves that always seem to need filling. I spend a lot of time walking up and down the aisles checking prices and making sure nothing is expired. The floor is a bit scuffed from all the feet walking through, but we try to keep it swept. It’s not a high-end place with shiny lights; it’s just a practical store where you can get what you need for your kitchen. Sometimes the billing machine freezes up when we’re at our busiest, which usually happens on Sunday mornings when everyone is out shopping. Those are the times when things get a bit stressful, but we just apologize and keep going. The location is good because people can stop on their way home from the temple. We don't really have a fancy way of doing things. We just open the doors, turn on the lights, and wait for the regulars to show up. It’s just us doing our thing every day of the week, even when it feels like we’re constantly out of milk or bread because of the rush.
