Vigneswara Stores & Pookkada

We run our store right on the Main Road in Sreekaryam, Thiruvananthapuram. Most people know us because we are near the Canara Bank ATM. It is a combined shop where we sell general items and also have a "Pookkada" for flowers. Because of the flowers, the shop always has a very specific smell, mostly of jasmine and roses mixed with the scent of incense sticks. We open the shutters very early in the morning when the fresh bundles of flowers arrive from the market. The floor is often a bit wet from the buckets of water we use to keep everything fresh. It is a small space, and things can get quite crowded with all the bags and boxes everywhere. We do not have a fancy computer system for everything; we still do a lot of things the old-fashioned way with a pen and a notebook. Sreekaryam is a lively neighborhood, and we see the same people every day as they go to work or head to the temple. We spend a lot of time stringing flowers together by hand, which is a slow process but it is what we do. Sometimes the traffic on the main road makes it hard to hear ourselves talk, but we just keep going. We are just local people serving our neighbors. We do not try to be anything more than a reliable shop where you can get what you need for your home or a simple prayer.
