Working out of Essco Tower in Kaimanam gives us a bit of a different perspective than if we were on the street level. We occupy a good chunk of the building and it’s always a hive of activity. Between the deliveries coming in at the back and the customers walking through the front, there isn't much time to sit down. The mart is a busy place, especially in the evenings when people are heading home from work and realize they forgot something for dinner. We spend a lot of time on our feet, moving boxes and helping people find where the rice is kept. The tower itself is a well-known landmark in the post area, so people find us easily enough. We have a small break room where we keep a kettle, and that’s probably the most important part of the whole office for us. It’s not a corporate headquarters with shiny glass desks; it’s more of a working warehouse and shop mixed together. We’ve had some of the same staff for over five years now, so we all know how each other works. There’s a lot of chatter and occasionally some arguing about where the new stock should go, but we get it done. It’s just a local mart trying to keep the shelves full for the people who live around here. No more, no less. That is just our daily reality at Essco.
