Ecotex Handloom Consortium

Down here in Balaramapuram, weaving is just what everyone does. Ecotex Handloom Consortium started back around 2004, and we’ve been at it in Poovathoor, Manchavilakom ever since. We are located pretty close to the Karakonam Medical College, which is a good landmark if you're trying to find us. It’s a group of us working together, mostly focusing on the traditional handloom stuff that this area is known for. It’s not a fancy corporate office, it’s more of a place where you hear the sounds of work all day. We deal with a lot of cotton and traditional fabrics. Some days are slow and quiet, while others are full of people checking on orders or bringing in new materials. Being a consortium means we have different people involved, all with their own way of doing things, which keeps it interesting. The building itself is simple, just what we need to get the job done. We spend a lot of time checking the quality of the threads and making sure the looms are running right. It’s hard work and the humidity can be a bit much sometimes, but we’re used to it. People around Balaramapuram know where we are if they need something authentic. We aren't trying to be the biggest company out there, just trying to keep our traditions going in Manchavilakom while making sure everyone involved gets a fair shake at the work.
