Balaramapuram Handloom Producer Company is set up at Aji Nivas in the Punnakkadu area. We are located near the Perumpazhuthoor post office in Balaramapuram. This region is very famous for its weaving history, so it feels right for us to be based here. Aji Nivas is a simple building where we handle the coordination for all the handloom products. You can often hear the rhythmic sound of looms coming from the nearby houses if you walk down the road. Our office is where we keep all the records and talk to the local weavers who bring their items in for us to see. It’s not a fancy corporate headquarters by any means. We have stacks of files and samples of hand-woven cloth everywhere on the tables. The heat in Balaramapuram can be quite intense, especially in the middle of the day, but we just get on with our tasks. Most of us have lived in this part of Kerala all our lives, so we’re used to the way things work around here. We don't have any big statements or glossy brochures to hand out. We just want to make sure the handloom work keeps moving from the looms to the market. Sometimes the roads around Perumpazhuthoor get a bit muddy during the rainy season, which makes transporting the goods a bit slow. We just deal with those things as they come. It’s a practical, local operation that stays focused on the daily work of the weavers.
