Mart

Our shop is called Mart and you can find it at 403 in the Dhanashree CHS. We are right on Savarkar Road in Dombivali East. The pin code is 421201 if you are coming from out of town. It is a busy street with lots of people walking by every minute. Being on the fourth floor means people have to come up to find us, but we have our regular visitors. The space is filled with all sorts of items. It’s a bit of a squeeze sometimes when we get new stock in. We spend a lot of time unpacking boxes and putting things on shelves. It’s physical work. We don't have a big staff, just a couple of us who know where everything is kept. The building is a typical cooperative housing society setup. We have lived and worked in Dombivali for a long time, so we know the local rhythms. The fans are always on because it gets quite stuffy in the afternoons. We keep a ledger for the accounts and try to stay on top of the inventory. Sometimes the lift doesn't work and we have to carry things up the stairs, which is a bit of a workout. We don't do much advertising. People just know we are here. It’s a straightforward business. We open up in the morning, do our thing, and close up when the sun goes down. It’s a good, honest way to make a living.
