Joy Public Nursery & Primary School

Our place is Joy Public Nursery & Primary School, right at No 66 on T K Road in Panpoli. It’s a quiet enough area compared to the main city, but the road gets busy with local traffic. The school is where we spend our whole day dealing with small children and the primary classes. The rooms are basic and we try to keep them tidy, though with kids running around, it’s a bit of a struggle. We’ve got the usual charts on the walls and the blackboards are always dusty with chalk. The teachers here have been around for a few years and they know the families in Tirunelveli quite well. We don’t have any big marketing team or anything like that. Most of our students come because their older siblings came here too. It’s a practical setup. We start early when the sun isn't too high yet. Lunchtime is the loudest part of the day when everyone opens their tiffin boxes. You can smell the different foods from all the houses. We do the paperwork in the small office near the entrance. Sometimes the power goes out and we just have to deal with it. It’s a local school for local people. We don't try to be anything we aren't. We just teach the basics and make sure the kids are behaving themselves. It’s a lot of work for the staff, but that’s just how it is. We keep the gates locked during the day and wait for the final bell.
