About Government Secondary School – Education in Tapi
Up here in the Dangs, things move a bit slower than the big cities in Gujarat. Our school is right in Ahwa, surrounded by a lot of green especially when the monsoon hits. It’s a government building, so it looks like most others you’ve seen with the standard windows and wide corridors. The kids come from all over the hilly areas, some walking quite a distance to get here for their classes. We spend a lot of time just managing the daily routine of a public school. There’s always paperwork to do and textbooks to hand out at the start of the year. Our playground isn’t perfectly level because of the terrain, but the students don't seem to mind when they’re playing. The teachers often stay in the staff quarters nearby since commuting is hard in these parts. We try to keep the classrooms airy. Sometimes cows wander onto the path leading up to the main entrance. It’s a quiet life mostly, except for when the lunch bell rings and everyone heads out at once. We don't have a lot of fancy equipment, just the basics that the department provides us. It gets quite foggy in the mornings during winter, making the whole place look a bit different. Most of the families here rely on us for their children's secondary education. We just do what we can with what we have every single day and keep things going.
