Somamajumdar

Being located at Vi / 8 in the HVF Estate means things are a bit different than in the busier parts of Chennai. Somamajumdar is the name we go by here in the 600045 area. The estate has its own specific feel, a bit more structured maybe because of how it was built, but it is still very much a part of the local Tamil Nadu landscape. It’s not the kind of place people just stumble upon by accident; you usually have a reason to be coming here for work. The office is pretty basic, truth be told. We have the usual stuff like chairs, tables, some old blue files, and a computer that’s seen better days but still gets the job done. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but it hasn’t been a priority for us lately. We’re too busy actually doing the work to worry about the decor. The weather is always warm, so we keep the ceiling fans going all day long. Sometimes we have a tea break and just chat about what’s going on in the estate. There’s a sense of community here that you don’t always get in the bigger city neighborhoods. We don’t try to be anything we aren’t. We just show up, do the jobs that need to be done, and head home in the evening. It’s a steady kind of life. No one is wearing a suit and tie here. We just dress for the heat and get on with our tasks. It works for us.
