Our place at E C India is tucked away in Ayanambakkam, on Periyar Cross Street. To get here, you have to come via Galaxy Road and turn into Geason Colony. It’s a bit of a maze if you aren’t from around here. The building at number 53 is nothing special to look at. We’ve got a small front area where we keep the main desk and some filing cabinets that are overflowing with papers. The street outside is usually quiet compared to the main roads, which is nice. You can hear the neighbors’ dogs barking or someone washing their scooter nearby. We spend our days mostly on the computer or talking to people who walk in with questions. The office doesn't have a lot of decorations. There’s a clock on the wall that's about five minutes fast, but we never bother to fix it. We keep a stash of biscuits in the drawer for the afternoon slump. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit there waiting for the generator to kick in so we can finish what we were doing. It’s a small operation. Most of the people who work here live close by, so we know all the local shortcuts. It’s just a humble office in a residential-feeling pocket of Ayanambakkam. We don't do anything flashy, just the daily tasks that keep the business moving along one day at a time without much fuss.
