Sagar Kala Chemicals Pvt. Ltd. sits right at Plot No- 56 in the Maharashtra Industrial Developments Corporations area. It’s a massive industrial zone, so it can get pretty grey and noisy with all the other factories running nearby. Our place is basically a large shed with some office space carved out in the corner. We spend most of our time dealing with chemical drums and checking lists. The floor is concrete and has a few stains from years of work, but it shows we’ve been busy. Working in an industrial area means you get used to the sound of trucks reversing and the smell of various manufacturing processes in the air. We don't have a receptionist or a lobby. Usually, if you show up, you’ll find one of us wearing a dusty shirt and holding a clipboard. It’s a lot of physical work, moving things around and making sure the inventory matches what we sold. Lunch is often eaten quickly at a small wooden table near the back door where there’s a bit of a breeze. We know the neighbors at Plot 55 and 57 pretty well. We swap tools or help each other out when a truck gets stuck in the monsoon mud. It’s a tough environment sometimes, especially in the summer heat, but we like the honesty of the work. There’s no pretending here; we just handle the chemicals and then head home when we are finished.
