About Studio Potteries – Art & Craft in Surendranagar
Down on Tarnetar Road in Thangadh, you’ll find Studio Potteries. This area is known for this kind of work, so we fit right in. We spend our days working with clay and kilns. It’s a hot and messy process, especially when the ovens are running full blast. We’ve been at this for a long time. The studio is more of a workshop than a store. There are pots and ceramic pieces drying on every available shelf. We don't follow a strict corporate schedule; we just work until the day's tasks are done. Sometimes a batch doesn't come out right, and we have to start over. That’s just the nature of working with fire and clay. Thangadh has a long history with ceramics, and we're just one small part of that tradition. We don't have a fancy website or a big PR team. It’s mostly just us and the wheels. People stop by to see what we're making or to pick up orders they placed weeks ago. It's slow work, but it's what we know. The dust is everywhere, and the noise from the machinery can be a bit much, but we've gotten used to it. We just keep making our pieces and hope they find a good home. It's simple, honest work that keeps us grounded. The clay gets under your nails and the heat from the kiln is no joke, but we keep showing up every morning. It’s a long walk down the road to get lunch, but it’s a good life.
