Skoda Engineering

Out here on Kadampalli Badi, things move pretty fast. Skoda Engineering is tucked away in the Pulkit School Lane in Paldi. It’s easy to miss if you aren't looking for number 22 2. We've been in this lane for a long time, watching the kids go to school and the traffic pile up at the corner. Our workshop is where we spend most of our lives. It’s full of tools, some of them older than the guys working here. We do a lot of fabrication and fixing things that people bring in on their trucks. It isn't a quiet place. There is always the sound of grinding or someone shouting over a motor. We don't have a big sign or fancy lights. Most people find us because they heard from a neighbor that we can fix a stubborn engine or weld a broken gate. The office is just a corner with a desk piled high with invoices and greasy notebooks. We try to keep things organized, but when three jobs come in at once, the paperwork has to wait. We use simple tools and a lot of elbow grease to get the work done. It’s a greasy job, and our clothes usually have holes in them from sparks. We don't mind. The neighborhood knows us, and we know them. We just show up every morning, open the shutters, and start the machines. It’s what we do.
