The Executive Engineer (Constn)

Our office is set up at Gidc Plot No. Cop-2. This is the place for the Executive Engineer (Constn), and we mostly deal with the various construction tasks that are ongoing around the industrial estate. It is not a place where we manufacture goods, but rather where we manage the projects and the paperwork that comes with them. The desks are usually covered in large blueprints and technical drawings. People from different companies often stop by to check on the progress of a road or a water line. It’s a government office, so it has that specific feel—lots of files, old wooden cabinets, and a slow-turning ceiling fan. We don’t have a marketing department because we aren’t trying to sell a product. We are here to make sure the infrastructure works for everyone else in the GIDC. The phone rings a lot, and there’s usually someone waiting to have a document signed or a plan reviewed. It can be a bit hectic when a deadline is approaching, and the office gets crowded with contractors and surveyors. We drink plenty of chai and try to stay on top of the piles of letters and reports. It’s a very practical environment. We don’t worry about looking modern or trendy. We just want to get the projects finished so the area can keep growing. It’s a lot of coordination and checking on details, day in and day out, and we just get on with it.
