Our place, Shagun Dresses, is located at No. 101 in Rathi Palace, which sits right on the Ring Road. Being on the Ring Road means we get a lot of noise from the trucks and buses flying by, but it also makes us easy to find. Rathi Palace is a big building and we are in suite 101. We have rows and rows of dresses hanging up on metal racks. The light reflects off the mirrors we have set up for people to see how they look. We don't do much marketing, we just keep the doors open and wait for people to walk in from the street. The floor is tiled and we have to mop it twice a day because of the soot from the heavy traffic outside. It is a practical shop. We have a small area in the back where we store the extra sizes and some packaging materials. Sometimes the elevator in the building acts up, so we just take the stairs since we are on the first floor anyway. The ceiling is a bit low, which makes the shop feel cozy but also a bit cramped when there are more than five people inside. We spend a lot of time steaming the fabric to get the wrinkles out before hanging them back up. It is repetitive work, but seeing a dress look good on someone makes the day go by a bit faster. We stay open until late evening when the traffic finally starts to thin out.
