Out here in Village Sayali, we spend our time surrounded by paper and ink. Navneet Publication (India) Ltd. is based at Survey No. 100/1/4. If you walk into the building, the first thing you notice is the smell of the printing presses. It’s a very specific scent that stays with you. We make books and stationery items. It’s a lot of work to keep the machines running right and to make sure the pages are cut straight. We have big stacks of paper everywhere. Sometimes the noise of the binders and the cutters is so loud you have to shout to be heard. We don’t have a polished corporate environment. It’s a workspace. People are moving pallets around, and the editors are checking proofs. We have been doing this for a long time, and we just focus on getting the books out to the shops and schools. We don't spend much time on fancy talk. We just want to make sure the print is clear and the bindings hold together. The village is quiet, but our site is always humming with some kind of activity. It’s a steady job, and we take pride in seeing the finished products being loaded onto the delivery vans. It’s just what we do every day, from early morning until the last shift ends and the lights finally go down.
