Sai Baba Kirana

Our shop, Sai Baba Kirana, is over on Varachha Road at Modi Tektro. We are in the Nana Varachha area of Surat. It is a very lively part of town and there is never a quiet moment on this road. We have a lot of stuff packed into our small space. We sell all the usual kirana items like rice, wheat, oils, and different kinds of lentils. It is a lot of work to keep track of everything, especially when the suppliers come at odd hours. We have been here for years and the shop has seen a lot of changes in the neighborhood. The buildings around us are getting taller, but we are still here in the same spot. Usually, the mornings are the busiest when people are getting their groceries for the day's cooking. We have to be quick with the weighing scale. It’s a bit of an old scale, but it works just fine. We don't have any fancy air conditioning, just a couple of wall fans that struggle in the heat. Sometimes we sit on the wooden bench outside when there are no customers. Most of the people who come in are our neighbors. We know their kids and we know what they usually buy every week. It is just a simple way of living. We aren't trying to be anything big, just a local kirana store where you can get what you need for your kitchen. We just keep going one day at a time.
