We are based in Rustampura at Ug 17-18, which is where we handle all the dye and chemical supplies. The shop is a bit of a functional space, filled with heavy plastic drums and smaller containers that are stacked up along the walls. Because of what we sell, there’s always a distinct smell in the air, a mix of various chemical scents that you eventually stop smelling altogether. The floors are concrete and they usually have a few stains on them, which is just part of the job when you’re moving dyes around all day. We’ve been in this spot for a long time, and the units 17 and 18 are pretty much packed to the ceiling with stock. It’s not the kind of place where people come to browse; usually, someone comes in knowing exactly what type of chemical or color they need for their project. Rustampura is a busy area with a lot of trade going on, so there’s always a bit of a rush in the mornings when the deliveries go out. I spend a fair amount of time checking the invoices and making sure the labels on the drums are clear. It’s physical work, moving things around and ensuring everything is stored safely. We don’t have a lot of bells and whistles here, just the supplies people need and a simple counter where we handle the transactions. It’s a gritty business but it’s what we know.
