Om Sai Lace

You can find us at A-22 in Sapna Society, which is just a stone’s throw from Ranjit Society on L. H. Road. This area is always buzzing with people and traffic, so there is never a dull moment. We’ve been working with lace here for a long time. If you walk past, you can usually hear the sound of the machines clicking away. It’s not a quiet job, but we are used to it by now. We make all kinds of lace patterns, some simple and some a bit more detailed for different types of clothing. The floor is usually covered in little bits of white and colored thread that we have to sweep up at the end of every shift. We aren't a big factory, just a local workshop where people know each other’s names. Most of our customers are local tailors or small garment shops around the city. We don't have a catalog or anything fancy. People just come in, look at what we’ve made that week, and take what they need. It’s a very hands-on process. Sometimes a machine breaks down and we have to fix it ourselves with some oil and a wrench. We just keep things moving as best as we can. L. H. Road is a good place to be for this kind of work. It’s busy, it’s loud, and it’s where we spend most of our daylight hours.
