Param Generator is situated at Plot No. A-2932 in the J Type Area, right by the Tata Motors Compound Under Bridge Road. If you come by, you’ll probably hear a diesel engine being tested before you even see the gate. It’s a noisy business, but that’s just the way it is when you’re dealing with big power units. The ground around the workshop is usually a bit stained with oil and coolant, no matter how much we try to scrub it clean. We spend our days with our heads inside generator housings, checking wiring and making sure the filters aren't clogged with grit. It’s a tight space under the bridge road, and the sound of the traffic overhead mixes with the roar of the engines we’re working on. We don’t have any fancy air-conditioned offices to sit in; usually, we’re just leaning against a workbench with a wrench in hand. The tools are old but they work, and the guys here know exactly how to listen to an engine to figure out what’s wrong with it. It isn’t the cleanest job in the world, and our overalls are usually pretty dark by the time we go home. People come to us when their power fails and they need a fix fast, so we’ve learned to work quickly even when things are complicated. We just focus on the machines and keeping the lights on. It takes a lot of patience to get the timing right.
