If you know the Surat Shak Bhaji Market, then you already know how crowded and loud it gets every day. We are right there at number 20515. It is a busy place, especially in the early mornings when the fresh vegetables are being unloaded from the trucks. We started Dhiraj Mithai because it seemed like people always wanted something sweet to take home after they finished their regular grocery shopping. We make all the sweets in the back room. The smell of boiling sugar and milk is always hanging in the air around the shop. It is a small space, so we really have to keep things organized or we would be tripping over each other all day long. My family helps out most days. We are not trying to be some big corporate chain or anything like that. We just make the traditional stuff that people around here like to eat. Some days we actually run out of certain items before the clock even hits noon. That is just how it goes when the market is this busy. The floor gets a bit sticky sometimes, no matter how much we sweep it. Customers come in with their bags full of vegetables and grab a box of sweets on their way out. We know most of the regulars by their names now. It is a lot of standing on your feet, but we like being right in the middle of the market.
