We've got our place on the 3rd floor of the New Sardar Traders Market in Surat. Being in the market means we're right in the thick of the textile world. It’s a massive building and it can be a bit of a maze if you don’t know your way around. Our office is 3011, and it's usually filled with bags of yarn samples and piles of ledgers. The market is incredibly loud and busy from early morning until late at night. There are always people hauling bundles of cloth or yarn up and down the stairs and corridors. We deal specifically in yarns, so our days are spent talking to mills and then selling to the weavers who need the material. It’s a very traditional way of doing business. We know most of our neighbors in the market, and we often share a cup of tea while discussing how the market is moving. We don't use any high-tech systems; we just keep track of everything in our books and make sure we know who owes what. The air is always a bit dusty with lint from all the textiles, but that’s just part of the job. We've been in this market for a while and we don't plan on moving. It’s where the business happens. We just show up, do our work, and head home when the market starts to wind down for the night. It's a busy life.
