As Color Work

As Color Work is located at 89 A /8 in the Amroli Kosad area of Surat. If you know Surat, you know it’s a city that never stops, especially when it comes to colors and textiles. Our workshop is a busy place where there is always something being dyed or processed. It’s not a clean, white-walled office. There are buckets of color, wet floors, and the smell of chemicals and steam everywhere. We’ve been working out of this spot in Amroli for quite some time. The neighborhood is a mix of homes and small workshops like ours, so it feels very local. My hands usually have some bit of ink or dye on them by midday, no matter how much I wash them. We have a few machines that run most of the day, making a steady humming sound that we’ve all gotten used to. It’s a lot of standing and moving around, checking the shades to make sure they come out right. We don't have a big sales team. Most people find us through word of mouth or because they saw our work at another shop. It gets very humid in the workshop during the summer, but that’s just part of the job here. We focus on getting the colors right for our customers and making sure the batches are done when we promised they would be.
