Aasha Provision Store

The shop sits right in Chamunda Nagar on L H Road, just across from Kailash Apartment. It is a busy spot in Surat, especially in the mornings when everyone is out getting milk or bread before work. We have been here at Hira Baug for quite some time. The shelves are filled with the usual things people need like rice, various dals, cooking oil, and some snacks. It is not a huge place, just a regular corner store where the fans are always spinning to keep the heat away. Sometimes the delivery trucks block the narrow road for a bit when they bring the new crates of soda or sacks of grain. We spend most of the day just weighing things out or looking for change in the drawer. People from the nearby buildings stop by to chat or just grab a quick packet of biscuits. It gets dusty because of the traffic on the main road, so there is always a bit of cleaning to do on the jars. We don't have fancy displays or anything like that. It is just a practical place to get what is on your list. The lights stay on until late evening because there is always someone who forgot to buy salt or matches. Dealing with the same faces every day makes the time go by. We know which neighbor prefers which brand of tea. It is a simple life running a store here in this part of Surat.
