Bikash Bricks Co.

We started Bikash Bricks Co. right here in Kuchinda because this area near Sambalpur has the right kind of soil for what we do. Most days around here are spent checking on the kilns and making sure the stacks are drying properly before the heat gets too intense. It is a lot of physical work and my hands are usually covered in red dust by the time lunch rolls around. We have a small crew of local guys who know the land well. Some days the weather does not cooperate and we have to cover everything up quickly when a surprise rain comes through. The road to Sambalpur is always busy with trucks, and sometimes people stop by just to ask for directions or see what we have ready. We don't have a big fancy office or anything like that. Just a small shed where we keep the books and take a break when the sun is directly overhead. People in Kuchinda know where to find us if they need bricks for a small wall or a new house project. It is honest work and it keeps us busy from sunrise until the evening. We just try to keep things moving and make sure the quality of the earth we use stays consistent throughout the different seasons. Sometimes the kiln doesn't fire exactly right, so we have to sort through the piles by hand. That is just how it goes when you work with fire and clay every day and you just have to deal with the waste.
