Sri Balaji Salon

You can find us on Nathan Vari Street in Manachanallur. It is a small street in Trichy and we have been here for a good amount of time. Sri Balaji Salon is just a local spot for the men in the village and the nearby streets. I don’t believe in making things more complicated than they need to be. A haircut should be simple and quick so people can get back to their work. I have two chairs and a big mirror that covers most of the front wall. The floor is tiled, which makes it easier to sweep up the hair every thirty minutes. Sometimes the neighbors stop by just to chat even if they don’t need a haircut. That is the way it is in a place like this. I use basic tools, nothing electric that breaks down too often. Manual clippers and good old-fashioned razors are what I trust the most. My father taught me some of the tricks, and I have just kept going with it. The morning sun hits the shop front directly, so it gets bright inside early on. I keep a stack of old newspapers for the customers to read. It is a humble place, honestly. We don’t have air conditioning, just a ceiling fan that wobbles a little bit when it’s on high. But it does the job and keep us cool enough while I work.
