You can find us in Mehjoor Nagar, right near the Mehjoor Educational Institute and the Masjid Muda. Being close to the school and the mosque means we see a lot of different people throughout the day. In the mornings, students come in to buy pens or notebooks before their classes start. Later on, when prayers are over at the masjid, many of the older men stop by to pick up some tea or other small items for their homes. Srinagar can get quite cold in the winters, so we spend a lot of time keeping the store warm and making sure we have enough supplies when the weather turns bad. We carry all the basic stuff like flour, oil, and biscuits. The shop is not very large, but it is packed from floor to ceiling with whatever we think the neighbors might need. We have lived and worked in this area for a long time, so we are used to the rhythm of the neighborhood. It is a quiet place for the most part, except for when school starts or finishes. We do not go in for big advertisements or anything like that; people just know we are here. It is just a small business trying to keep the pantry shelves full for the local families living nearby in this part of the city. We do our work and go home at night like everyone else does around here.
