Kashmir Spice Industries

Being in Industrial Estate 2 in Khanmoh is different from being in the city. It’s a bit quieter until the machines start. We are near Hatrek, in Chotabazar. The air smells like turmeric and chili most of the time. It gets into your clothes. We work with all kinds of spices that come from the local growers. It’s a lot of grinding and sorting. Some days the dust is a bit much, so we wear scarves over our faces. It’s a tough job but someone has to do it. We have a small crew. Most of them live nearby. We share our lunch together in the small shed out back. It’s cold in the winter here, so we keep a heater going. We don't have a fancy office with carpets. It’s concrete floors and heavy bags. Kashmir Spice Industries is just a place where we process what the earth gives us. We don't talk about missions or visions. We just talk about the quality of the harvest and if the moisture is right. People know us for being reliable. If we say we have it, we have it. We don't use big words to describe what we do. It’s just spices. We pack them and ship them out. It’s a lot of physical labor, moving sacks around. We’ve been here for years and the machines are old, but they work. We just focus on the day’s work and getting the orders out to the people who need them.
