The weather here in Srinagar can get quite cold, especially in the winter months, so we make sure the rooms are as comfortable as they can be. Irodov Physics Centre is focused on exactly what the name says. We have rooms that are mostly filled with diagrams on the boards and stacks of physics textbooks. It’s not a huge building, but we make the most of the space we have. There are often students standing in the hallways talking about their problems before the next session starts. We don’t have a lot of decorative items on the walls; it is mostly just calendars and a few notes about upcoming tests. The neighborhood is usually busy with young people going from one class to another. We have been part of this scene for a while. The desks are simple and the chairs are the basic plastic kind you see everywhere. We spend a lot of time writing out formulas and helping the kids figure out their homework. It’s a quiet, serious kind of place because physics takes a lot of concentration. We open the doors early and stay until the evening light fades over the city. It’s a very specific kind of environment.
