Buy Kashmiri Saffron

At No. 28 Wanabal in Rawalpora, we spend most of our time dealing with saffron. It’s a small place and the smell of the spice is everywhere, even in our clothes when we go home. We are not some big factory. It is more like a workspace where we sit and check the quality of what comes in from the fields. The saffron strands are tiny and fragile, so it takes a lot of patience. My hands are often stained a bit yellow by the end of the day. Rawalpora is a quiet enough area but we stay busy. We have these small scales that we use to weigh everything out. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to sit near the window to see what we are doing. We get people calling from all over asking about the crop this year. We just tell them what we see. If the rain was bad, we say so. There is no point in lying about it. We pack the saffron into small jars and tins right here on the wooden table. It is slow work and your back starts to ache after a few hours of leaning over. We don't have any big marketing team. It's just us at the house in Wanabal, making sure the jars are full and the lids are on tight before they go out.
