Shimna Bricks Udyog

Shimna Bricks Udyog is situated at Plot No. 20 in the Pilibanga area. It’s part of the Hanumangarh district, which is a place that gets very dusty when the wind picks up. We have been working in the brick business for a while now. The village post office is nearby, so we see the mailman almost every day. Our work revolves around the soil and the fire. We have to get the clay mixture just right before it goes into the molds. It’s a lot of waiting for things to dry and then even more waiting for the kiln to do its job. Sometimes the bricks come out a bit off-color or they break, but that’s just part of the process. We don't try to hide the fact that it's a rough business. The site is usually covered in stacks of finished bricks waiting for a truck to arrive. Pilibanga is a decent place to work, even if the summers are hard to get through. We don't have a big corporate setup, just a basic workspace where we can keep our tools and records. The local guys come by to help with the loading and unloading. We mostly deal with people from the surrounding villages who are building walls or small sheds. It’s just us out here, doing the same routine every morning and making sure the fire in the kiln stays at the right temperature through the night.
