Venkateswara Rice Traders

Venkateswara Rice Traders is tucked away at Flat No.60/22 in Stown House Pet, not far from Atmakur. The place is more of a warehouse and a basic office than a shop. We have been trading rice here for a good while. You can usually find us surrounded by stacks of burlap bags reaching up to the ceiling. The smell of raw rice is everywhere, which I’ve grown to like over the years. We deal with local mills and farmers who bring their trucks through Atmakur. Some days the yard is full of vehicles and it gets a bit chaotic with everyone shouting and trying to get loaded. Other days it’s just me and a couple of workers sitting around waiting for a delivery. Our ledger is pretty thick and worn out at the edges. We use a heavy old scale that has been here since we started. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but we are too busy to worry about that. Customers come by to check the quality of the different batches before they buy. We don't have any fancy brochures. We just show them the grain and let them decide. It’s straightforward work. We work until the sun goes down and then lock up the heavy metal shutters. It’s a humble business, but it keeps the local families fed and gives us a steady life here in the pet.
