Tarita Exim (Garment Export Co.)

We’re over here on the ground floor in Lado Sarai, right near Mehrauli. It’s a busy spot in New Delhi. Most days involve a lot of fabric rolls coming in and out. Being a garment export company means we spend a lot of time on our feet checking stitches and making sure things are packed right for long trips. The fans are always going because it gets pretty stuffy in the back during summer. Sometimes the delivery trucks block the lane, but that's just how it is around here. We’ve been at F-155 for a while now. It’s not a fancy office or anything like that. Just a workspace with tables, sewing machines, and people working. Some of us have been here years. We deal with lots of thread and buttons every single day. There’s always a pile of paperwork on the desk because shipping stuff across borders takes a lot of forms. We just try to get the orders done on time so the containers can leave for the port. It gets loud when everyone is talking over the machines, but we’re used to it. The tea guy comes around twice a day, which is the best part of the afternoon. We just focus on the clothes and getting them out the door. It’s hard work, but it keeps us busy. We don't have a receptionist or a lobby. People just walk in and see us working. It's simple.
