About Maa Kali Bhandar – Food & Beverages in South West Delhi
Up in Dwarka, specifically in the Bengali Colony part of Mahavir Enclave at E-35, you will find Maa Kali Bhandar. It’s a small place. I named it after the deity because that is what felt right when I opened. We sell daily needs, mostly stuff people use in their kitchens or for their pujas. Being in the Bengali Colony, I try to keep things that the families around here look for. It gets very busy in the evenings when everyone is coming home from work and realizes they forgot to buy something for dinner. I usually have boxes stacked up near the entrance because the delivery trucks come at odd hours. The space inside is a bit tight, so you have to watch your step. I've been at E-35 for quite some time now. The neighbors all know me by name. We talk about the weather or how the prices of oil and rice are going up. I don't have a staff of twenty people, it's just me and sometimes a family member helping out. It’s a regular shop for regular needs. I don't try to make it look like a supermarket. It’s just shelves and counters. If someone needs a specific spice or a certain type of dal, I usually have it tucked away somewhere. It’s a modest way to earn a living, and I like being part of the community here.
