Azara Designs

The morning in Rajouri Garden is always a bit of a rush. We are at A 5, and by ten o'clock, the whole area is buzzing. Azara Designs is where we keep all the rolls of fabric and the sketchbooks that seem to multiply when we aren't looking. It’s not a large studio, but we make it work by keeping everything organized, or at least we try to. Some days the floor is just covered in threads and scraps of paper. We spend a lot of time talking about colors and how a certain drape looks when it's pinned up. It’s a lot of sitting and then a lot of running around. We don't go for those big flashy displays you see in the malls. We prefer just having the work out where we can see it and touch it. People walk in off the street sometimes just to see what we are making. We don't mind. It's nice to have the company while we work on the sewing machines or draw out new patterns. The light in this part of Rajouri is pretty good in the afternoons, which helps when we are trying to match different shades of silk. It’s just a simple place where we make things we like. There’s always someone coming in with a new idea or a change to an old one. We just take it as it comes and keep the tea kettle hot. It feels like home more than a workplace.
