Strucon Engineers, Gurgaon. Even though the name mentions Gurgaon, we are actually working out of Ji-299 DDA Flats in Kalkaji, New Delhi. It’s a typical DDA setup, so it feels very much like a home that turned into an office. We have desks squeezed into the rooms and files stacked up where they fit. Working in Kalkaji means we are right in the middle of a busy residential and commercial mix. The stairs are narrow, and the neighborhood is always lively. We do engineering work here, focusing on the technical bits that people usually don't want to deal with. Our commute doesn't exist for some of us, while others brave the Delhi metro or the roads. We aren't a big firm with glass walls; we just have our computers and our tea kettle. Most of the day is spent looking at structural details or talking to contractors on the phone. It gets a bit loud outside sometimes with the kids playing or the local vendors calling out, but we’re used to it. We’ve been in this Kalkaji flat for a long time. It’s a practical arrangement that lets us keep our costs down and stay focused on the engineering. We don't have a marketing team or anything, just a few of us making sure the projects stay on track. It’s a bit cramped, but it’s our space and it works for what we need to do. We just keep it simple.
