Our shop is located on the ground floor of Bareja Sadan, which is house B-9 in the Badarpur area. If you’re familiar with South Delhi, you know Badarpur can get very crowded and dusty with all the traffic. We deal with different kinds of spices and food products here. The smell of ground spices is always in the air, which we’ve gotten used to, but visitors usually sneeze when they first walk in. It's a small shop, so we have to use every inch of shelf space we have. Sometimes the boxes are stacked almost to the ceiling. We spend a lot of time weighing things out and putting them into smaller packets. It’s just me and a couple of guys from the neighborhood working here. We don't have a big fancy website or a marketing team. We just open the shutters in the morning and start working. The floor gets messy with spice dust, so we have to sweep it a few times a day. Dealing with the heat in the summer is probably the hardest part, as the shop doesn't stay very cool. We don't really have a grand vision; we just want to sell our products and make enough to keep the lights on and pay the rent. People around here know us as the spice shop in Bareja Sadan. It’s a simple life, and we’re just trying to do our part in the community without making too much of a fuss.
