Ajay Bhargava

Working out of the Defence Colony Flyover Complex 212 has its own unique rhythm. Since we are right near the flyover, there is a constant low rumble of cars passing over us all day long. It becomes like background music after a while, and you stop noticing it until someone mentions it. Unit 212 is where Ajay Bhargava is based, and it’s a functional space designed for getting things done rather than looking pretty. The walls are a neutral grey, and the flooring is that standard durable tile that you see in many Delhi commercial hubs. We have a small corner where we keep a kettle for making coffee, which is pretty much essential for us to get through the afternoon slump. The complex itself is quite busy, with people coming and going from different units, and the corridors can get a bit dark in the evenings. Our office isn't very big, so we have to be quite careful about how we organize our equipment and furniture. We have a few old calendars on the wall and a clock that’s always five minutes fast, but we never bother to fix it. It’s a straightforward place to work. We don't spend much on decorations because we’re usually too focused on the tasks sitting on our desks. It’s an honest workspace in a very central part of the city, which makes getting around easy enough. The main entrance can be crowded at peak hours, so we try to time our departures carefully.
