Mamta Bricks

Our brick field is down in Kulpi, right in the 24 Parganas South district. It’s a big open area where we spend most of our time out in the sun. Making bricks in this part of the country is a lot of manual labor, but it is what we do. We have been here for quite a while now. The local soil in Kulpi is good for what we need. You can find us easily enough if you are traveling through this part of the district. We don’t have a fancy office or a big website. Most of the time, we are just busy loading trucks or watching the fire in the kilns. It’s a messy job, especially when it rains and the ground turns to mud. We have a small crew of workers from the local villages. They know the work well. Sometimes we have to stop for a bit when the weather gets too bad, but usually, we are working from dawn till dusk. We supply a lot of the smaller building sites around here. It’s honest work and we take it one day at a time. The bricks sit in long rows drying before they go in the kiln. People from all over 24 Parganas South come by to see what we have ready. We just try to keep things moving and make sure there’s enough for the next truck that pulls in. It is a simple life and it keeps us busy from season to season.
